Maine Belon Oysters - 12in x 27.5in

Belons, or European Flat oysters, were originally introduced to Maine waters in the 1950's in a failed aquaculture attempt.  Now 70 years later these uniquely shaped and tasting bivalves grow naturally in Maine waters and are locally known as Harpswell Flats.

These 5 large oysters are printed on handmade mulberry-based rice paper with oil-based ink and finished with lightfast pigments. Wet mounted for rigidity and archival stability.  This is a one of a kind original artwork.
